Children's Ministries
Early Childhood Nursery Ministry (ages 0-3)

Preschool Ministry (ages 3-5)

Our vision is to work alongside Christian parents and other caring adults/teens as we share Jesus' love with his precious little children.  We work hard to provide a safe and secure church environment where children can develop good first impressions about God. Newcomers are always welcome!

How do you keep young children secure?

When you bring your child to the classroom:

1. Bring your child to their classroom.

2. Tell us your child's name and any special needs he or she may have.

3. Let us know where you will be located during church, and when you expect to return for your child.

4. We will clip a Name Tag onto your child's clothing.

5. We will give you a Nursery Pager or a Preschool Claim Card labeled with your child's I.D. number.

Hang on to this pager or claim card (it will be your pass to retrieve your child).

When you're ready to pick up your baby:

1. Please come to your child's room promptly after church to pick up your child.

2. Please do not enter your child's room.  Wait for the staff member to bring your child to you.

3. Present your pager or claim card (the pager or card number must match your child's I.D. number for us to release your child to you).

4. You will receive back your child and his or her belongings.

More about nursery pagers:

If your child (age 0-3) needs you during church, we will signal for you by activating the pager which you received at the nursery. Please clip the pager onto your belt or clothing (close to your body) so that you can feel it vibrating if/when we activate it. These pagers will not "beep."

How do you select and train your workers?
We are always on the lookout for Christian parents and others who love children to join our staff of teachers and helpers.

Our nursery is a "cooperative" ministry in that we require parents to help out once a month. Many other people also work with us including couples without children, grandparents, single adults and teenagers. The nursery needs a large staff to maintain a safe environment. We require a minimum ratio of 1 worker for every 4 children in our nursery.

In our preschool ministry, many of our staff members serve on a rotational basis, taking turns with other teachers and helpers so that they can have time out of our children's classes to be refreshed in our adult ministry programs. We provide training and supplies to help equip our workers for a superb ministry experience!

All of our regular workers are required to complete an application form and to read our Child Care Manual. We perform criminal history background checks, contact references and interview all applicants before they become an official part of our children's ministry team.

What supplies should I bring for my baby?

• Change of clothes

• Bottle, pacifier or comforter

These supplies should be labeled with your child's name and nursery identification number (once one has been assigned to you).

What activities go on in the nursery?

During their time in the nursery, children can . . .

• Play time with clean toys and books

• Eat fresh snacks -- crackers and water

• Be held or rocked

• Hear a Bible lesson designed for toddlers

• Have their diapers checked (and changed if needed)

Parents are welcome to stay with their child in the nursery or to return at any time to see how their child is doing. We have a room divider which helps to hide parents from their child's view (so you can check on your baby without being seen).

Our Do's and Don'ts:

We do . . .

1. Change diapers and assist children with toilet use as needed.

2. Pray with children and talk with them about God and His Bible friends.

3. Gently correct and redirect inappropriate behavior.

4. Call parents to come and comfort overly upset children, or to correct and remove children for excessively inappropriate behavior (e.g., biting, hitting).

We do not . . .

1. Spank or mistreat children.

2. Yell at children.

3. Care for sick children in the nursery.

What is your policy about sick children in the nursery?
We maintain a "well baby" nursery which means that we cannot accept a child with a fever, contagious rash or possible signs of infection (e.g., persistent cough, runny nose with colored discharge, etc.). Out of consideration to other families, please do not bring your child to the nursery if he or she is ill.

If the nursery cannot accept your child, you may sit with him or her in the main lobby just outside of the Sanctuary, or you may bring your baby with you into your adult class (as long as they are not a disturbance to others).

Do you have a private place for mothers to nurse their babies?
On Sunday mornings, mothers who are breast feeding their baby can come to the Infant Nursery (Room G10) for privacy -- no men allowed.

What activities go on in the preschool ministry?
We teach young children important lessons from the Bible on these topics (and more): God made the world, God made you and loves you, Who is Jesus?, Why did Jesus have to die?, and How can a child go to heaven one day? Children will also learn about many great people in the Bible who's lives are good examples of faith and godly behavior (which helps us to teach about kindness, sharing, obedience, self-control, etc.).

We are currently equipping our teachers with detailed lesson plans and visual aids from Charisma Life Publisher's "Jr. Kids Church" curriculum. Besides Bible lessons, we sing fun songs, eat snacks, make craft projects, play games and play with toys.

When can my child enter the preschool ministry?
Children must be potty-trained before they graduate from the nursery and enter our three year olds' class.

Children should be pre-kindergarten to remain in our four year olds' class.

Children graduate to their new class each September (not on their birthday).
